Drop off location hosts
Some are already volunteering to be drop off locations for your neighborhood. That is completely amazing!! We really appreciate how much you are becoming a part of this CSA!! The following questions answer what the drop off host does (and receives!)
WHAT DOES THE DROP OFF HOST DO?
The drop off host has to be at that location on the afternoon and possible evening of the drop off day. In almost all cases, this will be a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. We plan to deliver the boxes as early as possible each day. The fine line we walk is that some items need to be harvested that very morning to be of the best quality. But we also want to deliver early for your convenience. So the likely balance between those two will put most deliveries in the afternoon. Once the the hosts and delivery route are determined, we will have a good idea of delivery times. The host needs to be available that afternoon. Their job is to warmly greet those who come to pick up their box. The host then checks their name off the list and makes sure they get the right size share. If a member doesn't come to pick up their box, the host will call their number. If the member cannot pick up their box that day, the host can decide what to do with that produce. It can go to a food shelf, given to a friend or neighbor or used by the host.
WHO CAN BE A DROP OFF HOST?
In most cases, it will be a CSA member. It can be a private residence and the boxes can be stored in your entry or garage. It can be a business. Some businesses who would like more traffic into their store may elect to be a drop off host. They might not even be a member. I really appreciate any efforts by CSA members to be thinking of good drop off sites. You can email your suggestions to me right through this website or call me at 218-205-4739.
WHAT DOES THE DROP OFF HOST RECEIVE?
We very much value the willingness of host participation. The host will receive one of our pasture-fed chickens for every two boxes they host for the season. So a person or business who hosts 20 boxes for the season will receive ten chickens! The host can also attend a farm harvest event for every five boxes they host. We have changed this some to make it more fair since some are hosting two boxes and others may handle fifty. If the drop off host already has a full share and is already entitled to all seven farm harvest events, they can do double farm harvest events or give those events to a friend!
More and more businesses are rallying their co-workers to become Bluebird Gardens CSA shareholders so the drop off site is that work site. They will still receive the extra chickens for being a drop off site. They might plan an office party where the featured food is... pasture-fed chicken!! I am most welcome to come and talk to any work site about becoming CSA members of Bluebird Gardens! Just call or email me and I will come!
